Earn Money Playing Slot Machines... Or Not!

Yay, what a life would that be - sitting behind the fancy slot machine, hitting buttons, sipping Bud Light and constantly cashing out big bucks, or coins. Sure, we know that casinos (even online casinos, yes) take their "edge" and earn hideous profits, but we don't think about it when we step into a local casino or log on to our favourite online casino.

There's always a constant battle between "us" (the players) and "them" (casino) and most of the time we're pretty equal, until the slot machine suddenly turns into a money-leeching demon and starts eating our cash. So, after losing again, you ended up reading this article that has a title which gives you some hope.

Not that I want to sound rude, but reconsider because you won't win your money back. Every bet you make equals giving your money away. Actually, there's only one way to gain a profit visiting a casino - that's when you sign up for a casino's club card and go visit the place once in a while. You won't play but always claim your "Club Member Bonus" free drink. After drinking it you should leave the place, but knowing you guys, that almost never happens.

For people who still believe that they can win with slot machines, I have listed some myths and rumors that aren't true. Believing in them brings you debts and misery.

Some people believe that a poorly paying slot machine is about to hit big, maybe even a jackpot, so it would be smart to keep on playing or even raise the bets::

Well, actually there's no difference if the machine has been paying poorly for a long time or not, because each spin is unique and totally random (IF, that is, you're playing at least Casino Control Commission or a GamblingRalf approved casino and the machine uses well-known software). There's different situations in land based casinos, because even if they claim that slot machines payout percentage is fixed and constant, it still happens sometimes. The payout percentage has been lowered to nonexistent and you can keep on playing and losing forever. There's also no such thing as "feeding the slot machine" (this equals losing your money in order to win it back later) or "milking it".

Talking on a cell phone when gambling drives high tech slot machines crazy and helps to win big...or not! Actually some cell phones damage digital slot machines (especially before GSM coverage, when NMT was a superhit), but I haven't heard any stories of players being able to cheat the casino with this trick and withdraw the money.

I know a few players who have had sudden $100,000 on their bankroll and weren't paid, because the computer chip made a mistake (probably caused by cell phone). Every bet and win has to be proved by a slot machine's previous winnings history, which is saved and constantly checked.

::Temperature of the coins affect slot machines and payout rates. Hot coin means more money!::

Another twisted fairytale. If you're already so credulous, don't visit casinos at all - you will gamble your brains off like that and go home crying. Computer chips have a RNG chip (Random Number Generator) that isn't affected by anything, even not by the coin you have stored and heated up between your buns.

We could continue this list, but I'd rather not do it because it all comes down to one thing - in the long run there's no way you can beat the slot machine and steal its edge. If winning was easy, there would be no casinos. There's no simple "How to Beat Slot Machine" tactic, only some simple rules that should be followed to keep your losings as low as possible.

Basic Slots: Features & Strategies

Three features that should dictate any slot players’ search for basic slots are:

1) Single payline, in your quest to stretch your gambling bankroll.

2) Slot players should also look for 2 coin maximum non-progressive machines only.

Whereas a 2-coin machine may pay 80 coins for 3 double bars with 2 coins in, a 3-coin machine may show a pay of 120 coins for the same combination. However, remember, you had to gamble an extra coin, each spin; therefore, the payouts are generally equal. Three coin machines look more lucrative in their payoff structure because they show that the player will win more, but the player also has to bet more to get this.

Players who play the 3 coin machines will spend considerably more than players who invest more of their playtime and money in the preferred 2 coin machines, equating to more pulls on that slot, and more chances to win a jackpot.

3) Slot Players will want to seek out those slots that pay double jackpots on certain pay-line combinations.

The principle of this ‘double’ symbol is very simple; whenever it appears on the payline in combination with any other symbols that normally would have made a winning combination, the payoff amount is doubled.

Look closely to see which slot machine you are playing, as not all machines will double and quadruple all pays and not all machines will have double jackpots win possibilities.

Some machines will have only 2 double symbols, one on each of the first two reels while other machines will have 3 of these double symbols, one on each of the 3 reels.

When choosing a ‘double’ machine, it is important not to confuse them with wild cherries or any other symbols noted on the machines payoff display as being ‘wild’. Symbols identified as being wild sub for any other paying symbol, but do not double the payoff.

Additionally, most slot machines with 1000 coin top payout will hit more often than those with 5,000 or 10,000 top jackets...makes sense.

Blackjack players will argue loud and long at me for this, however there is data available that theorizes you can make just as much money on an hourly basis playing slots:

Cost per hour to play slots:

Denomination 1 coin 2 coins 3 coins
Nickel 30. 60. 90.
Quarter 150. 300. 450.
Dollar 600. 1200. 1800.

I rest my case for playing 2 coins machines. With quarter machines, the most played slots, I would have an extra $150. to play with, 300 extra spins/pulls at 2 coin machines and a greater opportunity for jackpots.

I realize that the popular slots today on and offline are bonus multi-line versions and they are definitely a lot of fun to play and will put profits in your pocket.

I write about them extensively in my articles and Casino Players Ezine, gambling newsletter, however, for the novice slot player--basic, single payline slots is an excellent starting point.

Remember: 'Not only do you have good luck with a gambling education, but you are making your luck.'
Until next we meet in the Slots Playground.

Beginners Guide to Slot Machines

Slot machine is one of the most popular casino games among gambling players. Many casino halls and online casino sites offers play slot machine game. You can find online slot sites which cater to only a slot game. If you are newbie player in casinos, then you can play slot machine. It is a very simple game of chance. Slot offers variety of playing levels; some only cost five cents a play and others can cost as much as twenty dollars a play. Although slot machines are a gambling tool, many players are intimidated by the high dollar card tables and prefer the fun and thrill of a good slot game.

The first mechanical slot machine was built in year 1895. It was called as “Liberty Bell”. The first slot machine was invented by a California auto mechanic. It had three spinning reels with hearts, diamonds, spades and a cracked Liberty Bell painted on each. Before this invention, the "slot machines" term was used to describe various types of vending machines.

The first real wide spread use of slot machines in American casinos is attributed to the Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas somewhere around year 1940. The casino owners thought that slot machines would be great to entertain wives of customers. The slot machines offer great fun to play. The slot machines comprise over two-thirds of all revenue generated by US casinos.

Slot machines undoubtedly have a rich history. From the small inadequate invention of the mid-1800 to the multi-million dollar industry of today, slot machines will continue to grow in popularity. There are lots of casino gambling sites which offer to play different types of sot machines. They offers to play 3 reels, 5 reels, 7 reels and 9 reels slot machines with regular and progressive jackpots. They also offers betting guide, gambling strategy and information on how to play slots. Players like to play slot because there is great chance of winning big jackpots.

Beat that Slot Machine

Slot machines are very popular in the casinos. Everybody seems to be drawn by the look and the feel of playing it by spinning the wheel. The thrill of playing a slot machine keeps anyone coming back either they win or not. Here are a few reminders to make your game worthwhile and at the same time increase your chances on hitting the jackpot!

Make sure that you know what machine you are playing. This may sound stupid but there are a lot of players that have missed knowing that they were not able to play the exact amount of coins for the most favorable payment there is.

Be sure to go for the highest reimbursement there is. This is a gamble. There are chances that the fates are on your side. Go ahead, play and win!

Always play the maximum coins. Normally, jackpots are paid on the maximum coins played. This way, not only do you get the chance of hitting the jackpot but also you get a high payback.

Remember to see the payback percentage whether in a casino or online. Some are even offering as high as 90% or more.

Keep in mind how much you are willing to gamble. It is always wise to plan how much you are going to spend. With the thrill of playing and hopes of hitting the jackpot, your money could be gone in seconds.

There are machines that require inexpensive games. These are the single pay line machines. This way, you could still play and have the chance on hitting the jackpot but doesn’t risk of losing all your money.

Try playing on two or three-coin slot machines. This way you could maximize the playing time of your money.

If you have a small budget for playing the slots, avoid playing the progressive slots online. Their payouts are much lower than the regular slot machine does. Plus, they could max out your budget in a few playing minutes.

You hit on jackpot at the first spin. It is likely for you to hope on playing for another round. But as it is, this is a game of chance. You are not sure if you would be hitting on the jackpot the second time or the third, etc. If you win, take the money and quit, don’t fall into giving back the money to the machine.

The rules on beating the slot machine simply works the same way as spinning a regular wheel that has to stop and produce a matching pattern of numbers or pictures in some case. So go ahead, have fun, spin the wheel and hit the jackpot!

Biggest Slots Jackpots – How they grow and how you can win them!

A brief History of Progressive Slots

In the beginning there were no such thing as progressive slots; they only became possible in the early 1980’s when microchips were added to slots machines. Even then it wasn’t until March of 1986 that the first multi site linked progressive slot machines were introduced by the slot machine manufacturer IGT.

Having the same jackpot being fed from a number of different machines (which are often spread across a number of different casinos) means these progressive jackpots can quickly grow to be very large indeed. I have heard of casinos in Las Vegas where slots players have won over $8 million in a single win on a progressive jackpot.

How Progressive Jackpots Work

Progressive Jackpots grow by skimming an amount of money from each and every bet; this means that their payout rate on normal wins (non jackpot wins) is lower than that of a regular slots machine. However if you take the progressive jackpot into account the payout would be the same.

For example if you were playing at a Las Vegas casino on a linked progressive slots machine with a fixed $5 bet per spin. Your money could be divided as follows, 25 cents adds to the progressive jackpot, $1.25 goes to the casino and the remaining $3.50 is paid out in non jackpot wins. If however you were playing a non progressive slots game at that same casino it is likely that your money would be divided as follows. $1.25 to the casino and $3.75 paid out on wins.

The example above assumes the casino has a 75% payout rate, in reality slots at land based casinos typically have payout rates ranging from 70% up to 87%. This is in stark contrast to the online casinos which typically have payout rates from 89% up to as much as 99.5%!

So at a typical online casino with a 95% pay out rate the money you pay in for a $5 per spin online progressive jackpot slots would be divided up something like this. $0.25 for the online casino, $0.25 added to the progressive jackpot and the remaining $4.50 is paid out in non jackpot winnings.

Given these statistics it is not hard to see why many hard core slots players are now playing online from their computers.

Online Progressive Jackpot games

So apart from the free drinks playing online sounds more favourable as a player (in that you should win more). However I have already said how large jackpots can be at land based casinos so your next question is no doubt going to be just how large are progressive jackpots at online casinos? The answer to that is that they are growing all the time, the current record is $1.76 million and interestingly the exact same slot machine that paid that out in December 2005 currently has a Jackpot of over $3.6 Million and still rising! The slots game in question is millionaires club progressive jackpot slot and when this jackpot is eventually won it is going to set a new record for being the highest progressive slots jackpot of any online casino to date.

I have no doubt that even after that has been won a new record will be set within a space of less than a year, the rate at which progressive jackpots online are growing is amazing, only a couple of years ago a jackpot of a little over $1 million held the record. It is my opinion that sometime within the next couple of years the highest jackpots will be being paid out from the online casinos.

So how do you pick a winner?

Choosing which progressive jackpot to play is really not all that complicated. Once you know what the progressive jackpot starts at, what its highest payout was and what its average payout amount is. There are a number of slots sites that give you this information including any of the progressive jackpot reviews at slotsjam.com.

Obviously once the jackpot in question is higher than it’s historical average the chances of it paying out are greatly increased, and if it goes higher than its previous highest payout your chances are further increased again. So if you are chasing the biggest jackpots don’t play the games just after the jackpot has been won instead wait until after that games historical average payout has been passed for the best chance of winning big.

Betting Strategies used in Roulette

Depending on whether or not you're playing on an American or a European wheel, you're going to find that roulette is either a difficult game to win, or an easy one. Given that American wheels have added spaces to their wheel, it's much easier to win a bet on a European wheel, so seek them out if they're available. You'll be playing against a much lower house advantage, and this will make it easier to design a workable betting system. If you're not sure how to go about doing that, though, there are a few methods that people have found to be useful at the roulette table.

While people do follow certain betting methods at the roulette table, they are really based more on probability, not on the game itself. After all, roulette is a true game of chance, so strategizing only takes you so far. Still, you may find yourself a system that will make you comfortable when playing roulette, and that will take off a lot of the stress that games of chance can bring.

The most common method of betting in roulette is known as the "Martingale" system which first came about in France during the 18th century. In this system, you start off with a fixed bet; let's say $5, since that is a common minimum bet at roulette tables. You bet with this amount until you lost, at which point you double your bet continuously until you win. Once you do win, you will be betting enough to get back all the money you lost previously, and then some. Just make sure not to start off betting at the maximum, because you won't be able to double from there. There is also a system called the Anti-Martingale system where the gambler reduces the amount of a bet after a loss.

Progressive betting is also a fairly common system. You start off betting a fixed amount, and whenever you win you will increase your bet by that much. So if you start off betting $5 and win, your next bet will be $10. Win again, and it's $15. When you lose, subtract the initial amount and you'll have your next bet.

These are only a couple examples of betting techniques other roulette players use. Once you play enough, though, you're likely to develop your own strategy. Finding one that's comfortable for you will be the best thing you can do in the game.

American Roulette Systems: Game Strategies And Tips For How To Win

The Red/Black system is one of the better known roulette systems around. Your bets for this system are on either red or black, with your pay out 1 to 1, meaning your money is doubled for a win. It is worth keeping in mind that your chances of winning each bet are just under 50/50 due to the fact that the 0 and 00 gives the casino its advantage.

To begin you must choose a color and place your bet on either red or black. If you win, keep your winnings and place your starting bet again. If you lose, double your stake and place a bet on the same color again. If this bet wins, your net result after two bets is the same as if you had one you initial bet. Keep your winnings and begin with your starting stake again. If your second bet loses, double your stake again, and continue doing this until your color does come up, at which point your net win from the string of bets will be the same as if you win your starting bet. It doesn’t take too many losing bets in a row for your bet amount to climb to quite a big number. Be very aware of the table bet limit - if you reach this before you have a win then you stand to lose a considerable amount.

The Five Number System calls for straight-up inside bets which offer a payout of 35 to 1. You place your bets on five individual numbers. Don’t forget 0 and 00 are part of the inside numbers you can wager on. Pick any five numbers, they all have the exact same chance of winning. Find a game where the minimum bet is no more than $5 and buy forty $1 chips ($40). If you limit yourself to relatively small stakes you can’t get badly hurt. With this system you hope to get lucky two consecutive times. Start by placing one chip on each of your five chosen numbers. Repeat this same wager until you win - you have enough chips for eight tries. When the ball comes to rest on one of your numbers, you win 35 chips. Divide the 35 chips over your five number fields, seven on each. If you hit again the pay off will be 7 x 35 = $245. No matter what the outcome, this was your last spin. Smart gamblers know when to quit.

American Roulette Strategy

When I was 14 years old my parents took me on a 2 day cruise, it was great; my dad spent the whole time looking a bit green whilst my mum introduced me to the wonders of onboard casinos - that was the beginning of my love affair with roulette. Ten years later, I still love the roulette wheel, it's appeal and excitement hasn't waned. In the course of those ten years, however I have noticed a number of strategies that people tend to play with - personally I think they take the fun out of the game, but hey, everyone has a right to know what their options are, right?

The most common used in roulette strategy is known as the Martingale. This strategy is based on the theory that losing streaks don't last long, therefore if you continue to bet on the same one of two chance options (e.g. black or red/odds or evens), it won't be long until you win. Now, the way that you actually make money on this is by doubling your bet each time each time you don't win. Confused? Don't be! If I bet $5 on red and it comes up black, then I've lost $5, however the next spin I bet $10 on red - oops came up black again, now I've lost a total of $15. Never mind, I stick with the Martingale theory, I double my bet on the same choice and so I put down $20 on red. Hallelujah, it's red! I win $40. Does it work out? Yes, I bet $5 + $10 + $20 = $35; I made a $5 profit. Make sense?

Once you've grappled with the Martingale, the next strategy for you to deal with to is the Uber Martingale, actually more commonly known as the Grand Martingale. This strategy works in much the same way as the regular Martingale, except that with the Grand Martingale you double your bet and you add one of your original bet. So, after the first loss of $5 you double it to $10, but you also add one, i.e. another $5, so your second bet is $15. If that one doesn't come in for you, you double the $15 and add one, i.e. $5 to make your third bet $35, and so on. This increases your profit margin when you do win.

The truth is that I have seen people win big with these strategies; they're highly logical and do work. However, I've also seen people lose big on them because they didn't plan properly; a table with a low limit can cause problems when playing the Martingale strategies because it increases the chance of reaching the limit before you win. So, if you're going to play this strategy, play at a high limit table, and always start your bets low.

This isn't the only roulette strategy used, but it is the most common. Personally, I find all strategies to be a little dull, except for mine that is - favorite numbers, birthdays and following the gut; frankly you can't beat it.

Always Split Aces and Eights

There are some basics in blackjack. Splitting aces and eights only makes senses since a hand equaling 2 or 12 compared to having two hands of 11 is a no brainer. Even though you only receive one card to your ace, the chances of getting 21 or a relatively decent hand are good.

Splitting eights all the time is a bit riskier. Some blackjack studs say not to split eights if the dealer is showing a nine or a ten. For me, it depends on how the cards are flowing that day whether I will split the eights all the time or just when it feels right against that dealer nine or ten.

Probably the most important strategy for wining blackjack is to always play the dealer for a ten in the hole. This will be the basis of your winning strategy. If the dealer is showing a ten, you play him as if he has twenty and hit or stay accordingly. The same rule applies if the dealer is showing a six or any other bust combination (12, 13, 14, or 15). You always have to play as if you had x-ray vision and could see the dealer’s hole card.

Playing hunches will kill you. You have to have a plan and stick to it. And your plan should follow the basic rules. Granted there will plenty of times that the dealer doesn’t have that ten in the hole, but you have to stick to your guns and play it that way.

One mistake that I see a lot of novices make is splitting tens or face cards. They will do this mostly when the dealer is showing a bust card. They think they will be able to double their money hitting each one of their tenths. This is ridiculous. Who splits the second best hand in blackjack? Definitely not me.

Besides doubling down on tens and elevens, if the house allows it, I love to double on soft 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 if the dealer is showing a 3, 4, 5 or 6. There is a good chance the dealer will bust, and also a good chance you will improve your hand, or get a ten and it remains the same.

I have always held if I had twelve and the dealer showed a bust card. But, recently I read that you should hit a 12 against the dealer when he shows a 2. I was a bit hesitant to do this since there was a chance that I would bust. But, playing this way, I have found out that I have won more than I have lost. This strategy you will have to decide for yourself if it right for you.

These are some of the basic blackjack strategies that you can apply. The key is to remain consistent even when the cards are against you. If you hit a bad run, get up from the table and take a break. Don’t keep throwing your money away when a dealer is hot.

Gambling Terms

Every gambler worth a hill of beans needs to understand the lingo of the game. While the gambling world is full of lingo, today I'll present some of the more common and interesting words and phrases you should know.

Action - The action is the total amount of money that's wagered. It's also a term that can be used to signify that an amount of money is in play.

Ante - This is a poker term that means the amount of money one needs to pony up to get into the action. You'll see it in regular poker, Caribbean Stud and other games.

Bankroll - Your bankroll is the amount of money you have to gamble with. It could be an amount of money for the night, a week, a sports season or whatever.

Betting Right or Wrong - At the Craps table, you are betting right when you're betting with the dice-a pass line wager. And you're betting wrong when you're going against the dice.

Biased Wheel - A Roulette wheel that seems to be favoring one part of itself-ball seems to land in one section a bit more often than other sections.

Burn Card - This is the first card of a new deck that's discarded before play begins.

Cage - It's the cashier's cage. This is where you cash in your chips, cash checks and so forth.

Face card - The Jacks, Queens and Kings of a deck of cards.

Field Bet - In Craps, a field bet is a one-roll wager that wins if the combination of the dice is a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12.

Greens - Green casino chips valued at $25 each. Dealers, etc will typically talk about chips by their color-greens, blacks, reds, etc.

Hole card - In Blackjack, this is the dealer's card that's face down on the felt.

House Advantage - This is the difference between the actual (or real) odds and the payout. The house maintains an advantage in all games, but some are way more than others. For instance, the Pass Line wager in Craps has a much smaller house edge than playing Roulette and thus that wager in Craps is better for players over the long run.

Random Number Generator - Also called the RNG, it's a little computer program that constantly picks random numbers. These numbers then generate an outcome-like in a slot machine. When you go to play the slot machine, a number is spit out randomly. This determines if you win or lose. And there you have it. Some interesting gambling terms that you should know.

Gambling Sites 101

STOP! Read the following first before tossing that dice. It may save you tons of money and a lot of heartaches.

Many online gambling sites offer several promotional incentives like bonuses, guarantees, equal winning opportunities, multiple/solo player modes, higher bet limits and a whole lot more that can be quite dizzying and makes you leap into them before looking into what they really offer.

Let's try and have a look first before you throw down that dice and before you throw away your hard-earned money and miss out on all the fun that thousands of gambling sites offer.

There are several considerations that one must take with prudence before dealing with any online gambling site.

The king of them all is to understanding their rules. Incentives are great but you play by their rules. Not all gambling sites have the same set of rules. Read them like you're about to take an exam. Look out for the fine prints, somewhere there might be a catch 22 situation. Understand the procedures and all the transactions they have pertaining to real money.

Just like any exemplary gambling site there is customer service support must be on top of their list. You are paying good money for enjoyment and a chance to win. They must have very excellent and professional people who would be ready to take your call and entertain any questions or complaints anytime of the day. Ask if they have toll free numbers.

Get to know the site better. You may do this by reading reviews, compare them to other gambling sites. There are also several websites that offer a listing of the gambling sites and their ratings. If you are new into online gambling you have to know that there are millions of gambling sites out there. Some better than the others.

Try out the games. Most gambling sites have features that lets you get the feel of their gaming programs for free. Try asking yourself if the interface was user-friendly and very intuitive. Does it have the feel of real poker game or baccarat? There should not be any distraction like having to press a certain key or key combination while the you are in the midst of a very exciting game.
Pressing the wrong key or clicking the wrong button could cause you the game.

You may also want to take a look at the support you are getting at your end with your PC and Internet connection. You may want a higher end PC to be able to play the better games that gambling sites offer. This usually means a higher memory requirement and a better video and sound card. Internet connection must be reliable and fast.

If ever you find yourself intrigued by a new game, understand how the game is played. Do your research on the new game. Get to know the all rules and strategies. Most often than not these gambling sites provide trials and test features for new games.

Those are a few tips for you to get to enjoy online gambling better, but don't roll that dice yet! Whether your sitting across your friends playing poker or sitting in front of the monitor playing black jack on a gambling site you have to come well prepared with a plan.

One more thing maybe a lucky rabbit would help.

So cross your fingers, say a little prayer and let that dice roll!

Gambling secrets online opportunity

The online casino business is so vast that it can probably outgrow the popularity of traditional casinos. With the onset of cyber casinos, interaction of players from around the world can be possible. As any gambling games, online casino can have rule breakers who can manipulate the game to their advantage. But you win and bring home large amounts of money fairly. Intrigued by trade secrets of online casino winners? Here are some of the known strategies and tips.

Winning in roulette

*Bet on only one color and stay with it during the whole duration of the game.
*Once you loose, double up or increase your next bet.
*In the occasion that you win, stick with the number you originally bet on.

Online Poker
*You can download a strategy card for a complete poker system online. Some of them might need your credit card number though.

*Sacrifice your straight or flush cards to convert them to at least one Royal. You might want to trade an ace with two high cards into a four- of –a- kind card. There is a bigger probability that you are going to get the latter.

Slots Machine

*Try to keep track of the average number of spins. When doing so, bet on the lowest available bet.
*Jot down the number of spins with a greater payoff. If your winnings are ten times your bet, stop and count the number of spins that would get you the same amount again.
*Increase your bet on the average number of spins that you have the greatest payoff. This system will make the slot machine to pay a larger pay out when you increase your bet.

Black Jack

*Just like poker, there is a strategy card you can refer to beat your playmates.
*Use only one value chip. In case you lost in one round, add another chip to your bet. On every win, decrease your bet by 2 chips. If you win a bet twice in a row, go back on betting one chip. Doing so, you bet more on the winning hands than you do for the losing hand. This is the way to a big payoff.

There are websites that offer downloadable versions of online casinos without betting with real money. This way you can put to practice some of essential tips provided above. You can buy a book or surf on some websites that offers online casino winning secrets too. Do some research and you will have a bigger chance on winning.

Gambling Secrets

Yes, there ARE a few gambling secrets that can help you beat the casino. In the nine years I worked at the Leelanau Sands Casino near Suttons Bay, Michigan, I saw a lot of hopeful schemes and ideas. Some of them even worked. Here are a couple examples.

Card Counting Secrets

Card counting is a technique for beating the house at the blackjack tables. If the deck is "rich" enough in face cards (10,J,Q,K), the odds tilt slightly in favor of the player. This has been proven statistically. The idea then, is to monitor the cards as they come out, and when the deck has many face cards left in it, bet more. If you bet less when the house has the edge, and more when you do, you can make money in the long run.

This is a simple explanation, and you need to study a good counting book (and practice) to make this work. Your play needs to be precise to really have the edge. One gentleman I dealt to for years would sit at the table for hours, almost always betting the $2 minimum. I watched as he shifted chips from one hand to another, his way of tracking the "plus or minus count." Then, when the shoe (five decks of cards) happened to be rich enough in face cards, he would suddenly be betting two hands at $20 each.

I am fairly certain that he made money, but not much. Depending on how well you do it, and how many decks are used, you may only get a 1.5% edge on the casino overall. If between your minimum bets and the others you average $8 per hand, and the dealer deals 75 hands per hour, you'll make about $9 per hour. That assumes you can tolerate alternating losing and winning days and hours of concentration. Betting more brings that hourly rate up, of course, along with the risk of bigger losing days.

Roulette Secrets

For years I watched people foolishly writing down the numbers that came up on the roulette wheel. I say foolishly, because their their theories were mostly nonsense. Most casinos will always welcome these players and even hand them the pen and paper.

There was one player, however, who was actually scientific about it. He found a bias in the wheel, after "charting" it for 5,000 spins. This means he simply wrote down every number that came up during that time.

Once he identified the bias, he made thousands betting on just one or two numbers. When a number comes up (the ball lands in that pocket), it pays 35 to 1. In this case, one of the numbers, because of manufacturing imperfections or whatever, was coming up 1 in 27 spins, instead of the average 1 in 38 spins (There are 38 numbers on most American wheels).

This guy bet $10 a spin, and he profited $90 for every 27 spins of the wheel in the long run (a $350 win minus 26 losing bets of $10 each). When I ran the wheel, I often was doing over 50 spins per hour, so if you can do the math you can see he was doing well. The ups and downs are dramatic though, so this isn't for the faint-hearted. I watched this player lose $700 some nights, but he later confided that he profited over $80,000 before the casino changed the wheel.

Learn to figure the odds. Casinos often give the edge away for various promotional reasons. If you know when the odds are in your favor, you can take advantage of these promotions. For example, one man made thousands betting the "money wheel," which is normally the worst bet in the house. However, in this case the casino was selling $20 in tokens for $10, with no limit on purchases. The man played the tokens once each as required, then repeatedly cashed in the real chips he was paid with, and bought another $20 for $10. When the odds are in your favor, it's investing, not gambling, and that may be the most important of these gambling secrets.
